What are you doing this lent?

Lent is a great time to bring yourself closer with the Lord. It’s a time to reflect on the life He has given us and the sacrifice to save us from sin.

Personally, I’ve been using the Hallow app and doing their pray 40 challenge. It been a really cool series that was oriented around Takashi Nagai and his incredible journey through the faith. If you get the chance I would suggest reading A Song For Nagasaki to help develop and see your own journey.

I’ve also given up sweets or really dessert after dinner. I’m always craving sugar after eating dinner and have been tempted passing the desserts aisle that I’ve bought some cookies and they have been sitting in my pantry awaiting consumption. This may seem easy to some, but remember we all have different things that tempt us. I once gave up soda for lent when I was younger and pretty much have given it up all together. I’ll have an occasional Verners, but otherwise I stick to water or juice for the most part. You really need to dig deep to make an attainable goal even if it’s just the small things. I wouldn’t suggest what one fellow parishioner said “I’m giving up giving up something for lent”. Also, even if you fail just make it up by donating to a good cause, volunteer, give something else up or even just add an additional prayer to your day.

I hope you have a great rest of your lent and keep on seeking.
