Why a Blog?

When I started listening to the daily readings and reflections for the day, it always asked me how to take these readings and use them in life. I didn’t necessarily know how to interpret this call because some days, I stay inside all day and don’t interact with others. Then, when watching a YouTube video by Network Chuck about creating a blog, he made it look very easy. The footage would inspire me to start building something for others to see about the faith. Even though no one may ever read this or my other posts, I wanted to leave something someone could come across and hopefully be inspired to take something with them. These blog posts may not be every day, but I wanted to put my reflections down on something other than a notebook and something that can help me explore my faith and express my thoughts. I always watch many Catholic influencers give their take on faith topics and want to contribute/reflect on the subject of discussion and have a place to go back and review. The ability to express the faith online is something that I believe is needed for the future of the church to strive and inspire.

Struggles with devotion

In today’s modern world, we encounter countless temptations and distractions. This raises the question: How can we remain devoted to God in such an environment?

After confessing my sins, I was deeply moved by the priest’s blessing to go forth and free myself from past transgressions. However, several questions lingered:

- How do I avoid running into sin in this digital age?
- If I see sexual content online randomly on a normal site, am I sinning?
- If I do see that content, is it my mindset that makes it a sin or act of viewing it?
- How can I change my mind that was tempted before to now not recognize these temptations?
- How do I continue to devote myself to God when my mind wanders?
- What can't be forgiven when there is guilt but still encountering the temptations?

These questions have weighed heavily on my soul because I don’t want to fall back away from God when I’m trying to get closer to Him. I’m actively doing daily meditations and self-reflections with the daily readings on the free AMEN APP offered by The Augustine Institute. I’ve even started this before I finally decided to go to confession. I believe that I’m working towards a way to be closer to God, but I’m uncertain at times because I do keep noticing things that have led me into temptation before.
